Story Time: The Magic Coat

Di Wilcox is the founder of The Magic Coat. Di has a Bachelor of Social Science in Women and Children Studies and a Diploma of Education. In 2013 she received Momentums Most Inspirational Woman of the year award and in 2012 and 2014 she was a top three finalist for the Pride of Australia Medal. Most recently in 2017, Rotary International presented Di with a Pride of Workmanship award.

After teaching both nationally and internationally, Di was astounded at the number of children who were unable to focus at school. She spent her recess and lunch times speaking with children who she could see were struggling to concentrate, to find out what was going on in their minds. Di discovered that most of these children loved school but could not focus because of all the worries that they had going on in their lives both in and out of school.

After some research, particularly in the area of Positive Psychology Di wrote lessons for her own class to help them manage these worries and build resilience. It didn’t take long before other teachers were asking her to work with their students and then other schools. Soon Di left teaching to focus 100% on developing a program that could provide a common language for adults and children to share, that would help children to build confidence, manage their emotions, build resilience and encourage empathy for others.

This is when The Magic Coat Program was developed and, after three years of piloting the program, Di now presents to hundreds of parents and children but also trains teachers, psychologists, social workers, women refuge workers and the police in how to use the program and resources with the children with whom they work.

Di is available as a keynote and inspirational speaker for corporate events globally and also provides life coaching for children and their families.

1-on-1 with Damian Martin & Julian Pace

Possibly the NBL’s greatest ever defender, Martin has earned the honour of Defensive Player of the Year five straight years from 2011-2015.

Identified as a leader from an early age, the point guard captained the 2003 Australian U19 team at the World Championships where they won their first ever gold at the competition.

He honed his talents in the US at Loyola Marymount University but returned home to play for the West Sydney Razorbacks from 2007-09 in the NBL.

He brought success back to the Perth Wildcats when he joined them in 2010, giving them their first Championship in a decade in his first season with the new club. Four years later he would repeat the feat as he he surpassed 200 NBL games and made an All-NBL team for the fourth consecutive year.

Although not required to be as much of an offensive threat with the Wildcats, Martin is certainly capable around the rim and can surprise teams with his shot when necessary but it is that defensive intensity that makes him a vital part of the Australian national team’s back court.

Martin was apart of the 2016 Rio Olympic squad, playing strong minutes off the bench for coach Lemanis’ team. Upon returning from the Olympics, early on in the NBL season Martin suffered a number of injuries that kept him out for a substantial part of the 2016-17 season. Martin returned in time to play the out the end of the regular season, helping the Wildcats qualify for the finals.

Perth made the Grand-final once again and subsequently defeated the Illawarra Hawks 3-0 as Martin won his fourth NBL Championship.

In the 2017-18 season, Martin was named the NBL’s best defensive player for a record sixth time.

1-on-1 with Sharon Anyos and Robbie Figg

Sharon reached the pinnacle of her sporting career in 2005 when I was crowned “WBC (World Boxing Council) Inaugural Women’s Featherweight Champion of the World”. She successfully defended her title the following year. She learnt that to win a World Title was one thing, but to defend and keep it put a whole new meaning on ‘World Champion’.

Sharon was graciously awarded the title of WBC Peace & Good Will Ambassador in 2006. 2007 saw her crowned WBC Emeritus Champion along with 7 other champions. Kostya Tszyu, Vitali Klitschko, Lennox Lewis, Bernard Hopkins, Floyd Mayweather Jnr, Eric Morales and Laila Ali. Each of us now International Peace and Goodwill Ambassadors. Sharon has proudly etched my name in the history books on a number of occasions.

With many years of study and personal development Sharon now is on a mission to bring truth to this world. To open the eyes and hearts of people all over the globe to see what their true and real capabilities are. Not the beliefs they were handed by others. Most people function on auto pilot, living a life of emotional turmoil that leads to failure in relationships, business, health and the most sacred relationship anyone can heave and that is with oneself. Yet she can assure you that the journey is a gift to guide, as so many of her clients find that this inner warrior, this ability that once its cracked open just keeps getting brighter and stronger. Sharon would say that she guide’s others to step into their greatest power and begin to understand their hidden abilities and live from a centred heart space

She loves creating, loves breaking limits and loves awakening souls to their truth and loves bringing truth to all people across the globe.

Mindset Resilience

1 on 1 with Heidi Anderson & Robbie Figg

Before the birth of Heidi’s first baby Memphis, she worked in breakfast radio as a host around the country (Perth, Newcastle, Bunbury, Bathurst) for ten years sharing too many stories from everyone else’s life!

At times an anxious ball of mess, I discovered writing as a therapeutic tool, and I have been oversharing in my blog and online columns for publications since! I also spend a gross amount of time on social media doing the same.

Before this current life, I travelled to the UK and Europe, working in bars and PR. I studied PR and Communications at Charles Sturt University in Bathurst. I got busy most weekends killing my liver and silencing my inner voices with booze! I’ve done some crazy things along the way. Still, the wildest would’ve been in 2013 when I stepped into the Big Brother House…6 weeks later I was booted from the house and we’ll all of that didn’t really help with my anxiety!

It was 2010 when I was diagnosed with anxiety and began my lifelong recovery from the illness. It’s a daily struggle, but I’ve put together a strong support team and habit base that allow me to keep the demons silenced—mostly. Since announcing I was suffering from a mental illness on the radio (Woohoo, she’s crazy!), I have been working with other Aussie celebs to champion mental illness and body image causes through key-note speaking, social media and my workshops!
